AIMS & OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the day nurses will be able to:

Ensure that the physical and psychological aspects of care are related to
practice.

Name the indications for use of the peripheral intravenous cannula.

Know the relevant physiology for cannulation.

Know and apply the principles of aseptic technique to cannulation.
-
Know the criteria for the choice of both vein and size of cannula.
-
Name the potential problems which may be encountered.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
In order to attend this course it is important that you: -

You have attended an IV Drugs Administration Course and are deemed competent
-
Are not on annual leave for the next 6 weeks
-
Will be able to use this competency on average at least twice each week

Have a competent mentor to supervise your practice
-
Complete all the assessments within 3 months
-
Your manager must be aware and have nominated you for this course.
