Aims & objectives: To enable course members:

To increase their knowledge and understanding of their professional responsibilities and legal implications with regard to undertaking IV therapy.

To increase knowledge of the theoretical and pharmaceutical aspects of IV therapy, including the trust IV policy
-
To understand current IV devices used in this trust and the care of all devices including removal.

To increase knowledge of potential complications and treatment of anaphylaxis.
-
To ensure knowledge of blood transfusion administration, safety precautions and monitoring during transfusion.

To be fully informed about the ongoing assessment requirements post study day in order to gain IV therapy competence.
Who should attend: Qualified Nurses: In order to attend these courses it is important that you:

Have been a qualified nurse for 6 months or longer (managers can contact the IV team to discuss individuals that are qualified under the 6 months)

Have a competent mentor to supervise your practice

Complete assessments within 6 months of attending the course

Your manager must be aware and have nominated you for this course.
