Tracheostomy Study Day

Aims & objectives: At the end of the day nurses will be able to:
  • Understand the implications of managing a patient with a Tracheostomy.

  • Understand the use of equipment and safety in managing a patient with a      Tracheostomy.

  • have an understanding of the overall care a patient with a Tracheostomy requires.

  • To update knowledge and practical experience.

 Programme:

  • Indications for a Tracheostomy

  • Surgical Tracheostomy

  • Percutaneous Tracheostomy

  • Communication & Swallowing Issues

  • Workshops: Suctioning & Humidification

  • Types of Tracheostomies & Cleaning

  • Weaning, Resuscitation and Discussion

Who should attend:

  • Qualified Nurses: In order to attend these courses it is important that you:

  • Will be able to use this competency on average at least twice each week

  • Have a competent mentor to supervise your practice

  • Complete all the assessments within 6 months

  • Your manager must be aware and have nominated you for this course.
