Your doctor may ask you to have a scan or a test as part of the diagnostic process.
Technological advance means scanning equipment is now more accurate than ever, providing doctors and nurses with highly-detailed images that help them diagnose and treat a wide range of illnesses and injuries.
Western Sussex Hospitals staff carry out more than 300,000 x-rays and other scans every year, while our pathology labs process more than a million blood samples annually. It is estimated that between 70 and 80 per cent of all health care decisions affecting diagnosis or treatment involve a pathology investigation.
Many of our diagnostic services are also provided directly to primary care patients at the request of the local GPs, enabling many people to have their tests locally rather than come into hospital for them.
