Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery
Mr Wakeling is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon specialising in lower-limb arthroplasty, including primary hip and knee replacement, revision hip replacement and knee arthroscopic procedures. He also performs general trauma procedures and subspecialty trauma care for injuries around hip and knee replacements.
He completed undergraduate training in Leicester in 2005 and subsequently foundation doctor training, also in Leicester, before moving to Cornwall for core surgical training. He completed his higher specialty training in the South West Thames region of the London Deanery, rotating through departments throughout South West London, Surrey and Sussex. This included a year with the St George's Hospital hip and knee reconstruction team.
After being appointed to the specialist register in 2017, Mr Wakeling went on to complete fellowship training in hip replacement at the world-renowned Exeter hip unit, a department famed for its development of the Exeter hip replacement, developing primary and revision joint replacement techniques. Following this he undertook a further fellowship run by the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore, based in St Albans Hospital, working with the hip and knee replacement team there.
He joined the orthopaedic team at Western Sussex in February 2019. In addition to his surgical practice he is developing a long-term outcome review for orthopaedic patients to help monitor post-op results.
