Earn while you learn to degree level
Apprenticeships are a great way to earn while you learn and at Western Sussex 29 staff members are doing degree (level 6) and masters (level 7) apprenticeships.
Two new clinical trials specialist apprenticeship degrees are also now open for applications.
Widening participation lead Jo Hauffe sees first-hand the benefits of an apprenticeship: “Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to help support current staff’s progression and also introduce new staff into the trust to help grow our work force.”
the support from the whole hospital is outstanding
A number of apprentices are on their way to completing operating department practitioner or healthcare science practitioner degree level apprenticeships. Jaline Willems encourages others to apply: “This is a perfect opportunity, I have never worked in a hospital before nor have I had any clinical experience but I have learnt so much on the job and I will be set up with a job when I complete my apprenticeship.”
Heather Mascarenhas added: “I have always wanted to work in health care.
“Doing this apprenticeship will allow me to gain real life experience while developing my understanding further and gaining a qualification.”
All apprentices receive full support from the trust. Lucy Hanley said: “The widening participation team are extremely helpful and the support from the whole hospital is outstanding.”
ODP, Lauren Turvey, added: “I feel very much supported by my department, progressing from the level 3 to the level 6. The university have been very helpful and supportive, my advice would be, if I can do it so can you!’
Ben Davies, agrees, saying: ‘You should go for it, as it is an amazing opportunity; this is the best route to go down.”
