Best trust for second year running at recruiting patients into gastro research

Thursday October 31, 2019

Congratulations to colleagues in gastroenterology and associated research team after the trust has once again been commended for its research activities.

Consultant gastroenterologist, Dr Andi Li (right), said: “For two year’s running our trust has come up top in patient recruitment to multi-centre research studies in gastrointestinal disease throughout Kent, Surrey and Sussex Clinical Research Network area.
“The research network has recognised our achievement on each occasion at the annual KSS Clinical Research Network meetings.

“Clinical research in gastroenterology at our trust was virtually non-existent only a few years ago but with close working between the research department, the endoscopy units and clinical staff, this has been completely reversed.”

Head of Research, Dr Cate Bell, added: “I wish to also congratulate the gastro teams because their commitment, support and incredible achievements also saw them awarded a National Top Recruitment Award earlier this year.

“They are a fantastic team who really demonstrate how research and opportunities for patient to take part in research can be embedded in everyday practice. They really demonstrate the vision of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) for all NHS patients to #bepartofresearch.”

Director of operations (Medicine), Gethin Hughes, added: “This is a fantastic achievement by our amazing gastro service. Well done!”
