Covid sisters ‘both stars’
Ward sisters Caroline Bailey and Nadia Chuter have jointly won the Employee of the Month award for their work setting up and running the St Richard’s Covid-19 assessment area during the pandemic.
The dynamic duo converted their normal ward environments of acute respiratory care on Petworth ward and cardiac care in ACU into new specialist clinical zones for patients with suspected or confirmed coronavirus.
Their professionalism and dedication prompted matron Katie Kimber to nominate them both for Employee of the Month. She said: “These patients were anxious, required prompt care and to be placed in the best place to share the demand and acuity between the areas.
“Nadia and Caroline have formed a lasting strength from this experience, they rose to the challenge, embedded new working and are a credit to the trust, and more especially the patients under their care.” Katie also praised the consistent encouragement and advice both sisters provided to their colleagues.
they supported their teams through all the changes
In turn, both Caroline and Nadia dedicated their awards to their teams.
Nadia said: “It takes the entire team to work together to have a well run ward and I am honestly so proud of each and every one of my staff. This award is for all of us.”
Caroline agreed, adding: “I have never worked with such an amazing bunch of people and I am so grateful to be able to work with such a wonderful team.”
Head of nursing Julie Thomas presented their certificates in front of their colleagues this week. She said: “Whatever was thrown at Caroline and Nadia, often at short notice, they embraced it and just took it on, and they supported their teams through all the changes.
“I am incredibly proud of both of them and they really deserve this award – they are both stars.”
