Housekeeper paints stunning display for patients and visitors
Housekeeper Alice Novotna (back right) has created a stunning mural for patients and visitors to enjoy in a newly converted relatives’ room off Selsey ward at St Richard’s.
Alice hand painted two beautiful peacocks on her days off and during break times that are now providing pleasure to everyone who uses the room, including relatives of dying patients.
The new room was in fact developed after ward sister Hannah Chadwick (pictured front right above) said how heartbreaking it was for visitors to be sent all the way to the main entrance when they asked for somewhere to sit down and have a break.
Hannah asked matron Gerthy Albano if their small storage room could be changed and, supported by funds from the Friends of Chichester Hospitals, the idea soon became a reality. The Friends also supported the creation of a similar room for Bosham ward too.
Hannah said: “A huge thank you to the Friends who helped furnish the rooms, Steve the decorator and of course Alice for her extraordinary artistic talent. It is wonderful to have this new beautiful space for our patients and their visitors to enjoy.
“It is also great for staff morale to see people already really enjoying the room and the quiet space it offers so much. And with the introduction of longer visiting hours it is great to have somewhere we can ask patients and their visitors to move to if we need more confidential time with another patient.”
