Misleading report about highly contagious virus

Wednesday January 16, 2019

You may have seen misleading and inaccurate reports in the press about a highly contagious virus closing parts of Worthing hospital.

We would like to reassure you that our hospital remains fully open and the headline only refers to a case of seasonal influenza, or flu in the hospital.

Seasonal influenza occurs every winter in this country, as does Norovirus. As a precaution, unless it is an emergency, we advise patients who have had flu or noro-like symptoms not to attend hospital until they have been symptom free for 48 hours. This is to help protect our patients.

We would like to reassure all patients and visitors that it is safe to visit the hospital and to attend any appointments you have.

Thank you
