Identical statues have been unveiled in the reception areas at Worthing and St Richard’s, to celebrate those who have donated organs, and to encourage others to do so.

‘The Gift’ was created by sculptor Rodney Munday, and commissioned by the Trust’s Organ Donation and Transplant Committee.

The work of art was unveiled at St Richard’s on Tuesday, 8 April and at Worthing on Thursday, 10 April.

Speaking at the ceremonies Marianne Griffiths, Trust Chief Executive, singled out committee chairwoman Angela Fisher and clinical lead Dr Ryck Albertyn for praise, highlighting their passion, and total commitment.

“Your work means that many people have their lives significantly, and materially, improved – that is real, and remarkable,” she said.

Mr Munday added: “If this work encourages anyone to join the organ donation register it will have been a success.

“To that extent, perhaps it already has, since I have now signed up to the register myself.”

After the ceremonies, large baskets of fruit were delivered to A&E, ITU and theatres as a thank you to the staff there.
