Mortuary information for relatives

Mortuary staff are available for queries between the hours of 9.00 am and 4.00 pm.

Out of hours, they are available in emergencies only to the Trust and Coroner’s Office.


The following leaflet explains what happens after a bereavement, what you need to do and where you can get help:


Queries relating to deceased patients from either hospital

Contact the relevant bereavement office between 12.00 and 4.00pm:

  • St Richard’s Bereavement Office: 01243 831668

Out of hours, please contact the relevant hospital ward or department for assistance.

Please do not come to the Bereavement Office without phoning ahead to ensure that everything is ready for you.If you arrive unexpectedly you may find that you have a lengthy wait, which could cause additional distress at such a difficult time.

Our bereavement staff will be able to give you directions to the office when you call.

Please be aware that in some circumstances the certificate of death may not be available for several days.


Queries relating to deaths from the community

(or brought directly to the mortuaries by the ambulance service)

Contact the Coroner’s Office on 01273 404012 between 8.00 am and 4.00 pm.

Out of hours, please contact the police on 101.


Queries relating to families conducting their own funeral arrangements
