Vascular Surgery

Vascular surgery is used to correct or manage problems or illnesses affecting the veins and arteries that carry blood around the body.

Conditions that may require vascular surgery include arterial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysms, cerebrovascular disease, renovascular disease, autoimmune arterial disease, arterial trauma and grafts, varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), venous ulcers, lymphoedema and arterio-venous malformations.

Vascular system diseases relating to the heart and brain are managed by cardiothoracic and neurosurgeons.
