Western Sussex Hospitals have joined up with Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals to form a new NHS Foundation Trust for our area: University Hospitals Sussex.

You can keep using this website for information about St Richard’s, Worthing and Southlands hospitals but for our other sites and to find out more about the new trust please visit www.uhsussex.nhs.uk.

View your health records online

As Western Sussex Hospitals patient, you can benefit from being able to see your health records from our hospitals online through Patients Know Best.

This is an easier and more environmentally-friendly way of viewing letters such as discharge summaries and appointments.

Once registered, you can use your Patients Know Best account to view your letters, and enter other details to store all of your health information in one secure place.

You can always see who has access to your account by clicking the ‘Sharing’ button. If you choose to, you can share your information in this way with health professionals outside Western Sussex Hospitals, as well as with your family and carers.

Common Questions

  1. What is Patients Know Best (PKB)?

PKB is the secure website we use to provide this online service to patients. You, the patient, control who can see the data in the site.

  1. Do I have to use this service?

No, it’s optional and for your convenience. If you want online access to your health records and clinical teams, PKB is the secure method we use. However once you have registered for an account we will use it to send all letters, including appointment letters, instead of the post. You will receive email alerts when you have new information in your account.

  1. How is this service useful to me?

You can see your hospital letters online from any computer or phone, and you can give family members/carers access so they can help you look after your health.

  1. Who should I contact if I have any questions or get stuck?

If you have any questions about the service you can call the Appointments team at Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

For guidance on how to use PKB, please go to https://help.patientsknowbest.com/register-as-a-patient.html or watch the video below

If you get stuck or have any problems you can contact help@patientsknowbest.com.

  1. I do not use the internet, but would like to access my account with a carer, is this an option?

Once you have your own email address, a carer/relative/trusted friend can help you register to use your PKB record.

When your registration is complete, they can follow the instructions on the PKB help pages to set themselves up as your carer. This will allow them to access your record and help manage your care.
