General Surgery – Clinical work and support

Special Interests – Elective

The Consultants have special interests in:

  • Colorectal Cancer
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Pelvic Floor Disorders
  • Minimally invasive Surgery
  • Trans-anal Endoscopic Microsurgery
  • Bariatric Surgery
  • Anti-reflux and Biliary Surgery

There are no acute vascular services in the hospital, but one surgeon who also works at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital runs clinics and occasional elective operating lists as part of the service.

Emergency General Surgery

The service is run through the Emergency Floor with support from the Acute Physicians. A large proportion of emergency work is performed laparoscopically, incorporating a fully integrated ‘hot gallbladder’ service supported by all the General Surgeons.

We are also supported by the gastroenterologists with access to acute endoscopy on a 24/7 basis..
