Paediatrics – Educational opportunities

WSHT is recognised for placing education as a priority for our trainees.

Educational meetings include Journal Club, X-ray Meetings, Perinatal Meetings, Regional Study days (PLEAT days) and Clinical Governance meetings. In addition, you will be expected to take part in clinical audit and case presentations. The learning available in clinical settings includes morning handover the wards, delivery suite, A&E, Outpatients and the Child Development Centre.

Joint induction that covers:

  • Child protection
  • Neonatal & Paediatric emergencies
  • Newborn examinations

Informal teaching at daily handover, ward rounds and clinics.

Teaching sessions occur on Wednesday afternoons. We also have combined clinics with visiting specialty paediatricians in neurology, endocrinology, cardiology, respiratory, medicine, genetics, rheumatology and surgery.

The health sciences library is available to help aid trainees with their education and assessments.
