Respiratory – Shift practice and rota

The three respiratory consultants take part in the acute medical rota and provide a daily referral service for in-patients with respiratory problems.  They also aim to perform all live ultrasound-guided pleural procedures in the hospital.  A weekly ambulatory pleural list (pleural drains and aspiration under ultrasound guidance) provides training opportunities.

There are 16 Medical Consultants on the acute medical on-call rota as well as 5 AMU Consultants (under review). In-patients remaining on the acute medical unit remain under the care of the acute medical physicians; those moved elsewhere are taken over by a ward-based team.
