Medicine – Educational opportunities

Trainees have 30 days study leave per 12 months which can be taken after agreement with their consultant, if study leave is to be taken when on-call or on nights it is the trainee’s responsibility to organised an internal swap.  Locums are not standard practice.

The health sciences library provides access to online revision websites for various exams including MRCP.

Twice-weekly departmental educational training sessions are centred on case presentations by junior doctors within each of the sub specialties but will also provide an opportunity for audit presentations and morbidity and mortality meetings. All junior doctors are required to participate in this programme during the year. There is a rolling Acute Medicine teaching program mapped against the RCP curriculum which takes place on Wednesdays and the Acute Medicine SpR will manage this program. PACES teaching has been arranged by the Registrars and takes place when there are trainees preparing for the MRCP. Trainees are encouraged to attend Regional study days when possible.

Each trainee will be allocated an Educational Supervisor who should meet with them at the start of the rotation to provide guidance and advice, as well as a summary meeting at the end of the year, which will generate the Ed Supervisor’s final Structured Report to be presented to the ARCP Panel. Trainees will be allocated clinical supervisors during each of their posts.

The completion of Work Place Based Assessments (WBPAs) and modular paperwork is the responsibility of the trainee however every support will be provided in ensuring completion as appropriate. Trainees are encouraged to fill in WPBAs throughout their time rather that all at the last minute.

Please click on the links below for dates, times and venue; times and locations may vary and should be confirmed in advance if you wish to attend.
