Emergency Medicine

This Trust has two separate Emergency departments which are both recognized for higher training in Emergency Medicine. One is based at St Richards Hospital Chichester, the other at Worthing Hospital.

There are a total of 3 higher EM training posts (ST4-6), with one based on the Chichester Site, one on the Worthing site and one based on either site. There are 4 ACCS training posts, 2 on each site. We have 4 GP Trainees and 4 Foundation Doctors based in the department at any time.

Worthing Hospital Emergency Department

Worthing’s Emergency Department currently sees just above 70,000 patients per year.

A large redevelopment plan has just been completed with the opening of a separate paediatric ED with a jointly accredited Emergency Medicine/Paediatric Consultant. There is also a new extensive 6 bedded resuscitation room and 9 bedded Clinical Decision Unit.
